    Re-sealing a glass aquarium

Post by Flynn64 on Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:01 pm

Hey guys! Haven't been here on a while!

    My dilemma:

My friends have a 150 gallon glass reef tank that recently sprung a leak on 2 bottom corners (resulting in casatrophic flooding of their store)

My question is: is it possible (or safe) to reseal this tank with silicone?

I've spoken to a few of my reefing friends, and they mostly advised we scrap the tank and just buy a new one.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Welll resealing a tank is tough work, it can take hrs to clean the old silicon out clean it with alchol then tape it then put new silicon it. If you have the patience to do it i say go for it. i resealed 2 nanocubes that i got from CL and they worked fine. there is some good videos on youtube

I've used acetone to clean the old silicone..works faster...and it is doable..be safe and good luck.
